Slip Bobber Catfish

There are many different options available for anglers who choose to target catfish and often are great debates on what the most effective catfish rig is for different species of catfish.

There are different applications and catfish rigs that are most effective for catfish dependent on the species, location and techniques you are using for catfishing but for channel catfish my favorite hands down is slip bobber catfish fishing.

The slip bobber (slip float or slip cork as some may call it) is a highly effective and versatile rig for catching channel catfish, These fish often have a very subtly bite and the addition of a slip bobber allows the angler to really detect these ultra light bites.

In addition to this advantage slip bobber catfish fishing also allows the angler to quickly and easily adjust the depth that they are fishing to adjust to different scenarios for channel cats.

To tie the slip bobber catfish rig you will need a few pieces of tackle:

• Bobber stop
• Hook
• Slip bobber
• Split shot weight

First feed the bobber stop onto the main line and pull the knot tight. Once the knot is pulled tight cut the loose ends off the bobber stop.

Next feed the small bead onto the line, this will stop the float from sliding too far up the line.

Once the stop and bead have been added slide the float onto the line. Some anglers prefer to add a swivel and leader but I skip this when slip corking.

Finally, add a hook to the end of the line and a small split shot weight a few inches above the hook.

Once you have everything setup, adjust the bobber stop to the depth you want to fish and you are ready to bait the hook with your preferred catfish bait and get started slip bobber catfish fishing.

Make sure you keep an eye on that float when you cast out because a catfish will be along before too long and will pull it under, that's when you set the hook and reel him in.
